Agra: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the civil construction work of Agra Metro Rail Project through video conferencing; The Prime Minister said, “Agra Metro project will be an important step towards self-reliant India”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the civil construction work of Agra Metro Rail Project through video conferencing. On the occasion, he formally launched the construction work of Agra Metro project by pressing the remote button while unveiling the foundation laying.
In a ceremony held at the 15 Battalion PAC Parade Ground of Agra, Honorable Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath; Union Minister (Independent Charge), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Durga Shankar Mishra graced the occasion.
Along with them were a wide range of senior cabinet members and dignitaries including Union Ministers of State, Social Welfare, GS Dharmesh; SP Singh Baghel, MP from Agra Lok Sabha constituency and UPMRC Managing Director, Kumar Keshav to name a few.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister from Agra, saying, “It is a very fortunate day for Agra because today the city has started taking steps towards a state-of-the-art and world-class metro. The construction work of the project is going to begin. On this occasion, I congratulate the people of Agra, UP Metro Rail Corporation and all the people associated with this project. Due to the untiring efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, progress in these projects related to development work has been possible within such a short time.
Presently, construction work of Kanpur Metro project is also going on at a war footing. The formation of the Agra Metro will benefit not only 26 lakh city dwellers but also more than 60 lakh tourists who reach Agra every year. I am very happy to say that this project will usher in a new era of development in Agra. ” said the saffron clad monk turned CM.

On this occasion, congratulating everyone for the inauguration of the construction work of the Agra Metro Project, the Prime Minister said, “Agra city is known worldwide for its historical heritage but after the state-of-the-art metro project it will also be known for modern achievements. With hundreds of years of history, this city is now ready to move on with the 21st century. Many projects have been started for the prosperity and economic progress of the city, but the construction of this metro project with a budget of more than 8000 crores will give a new dimension to the vision of the smart city of this city. Over 450 km of metro rail network has expanded in the last 6 years in India, which aims to reach 1000 km by 2022.
Modi said, “It is a matter of great pride for us that the construction of metro rail coaches is now being done in the country itself, which has further strengthened the mission of our self-reliant India. The construction of the world-class Agra metro project will not only boost domestic and foreign tourism but will also strengthen the economy of this historic city. Small cities have abundant resources and enterprising people. With the coming of such development projects, small cities also get the chance to develop rapidly like metros. With the hope that the chariot of development will continue to move at a faster pace in future, I once again wish all of you on the launch of the construction work of the Agra Metro Rail Project. “
29.4 km under Agra Metro Rail Project. Two long corridors are proposed. About 14 km between Taj East Gate to Sikandra. The long first corridor is to be built, which will have 13 metro stations. The second corridor will be constructed between Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar with a length of 15.4 km. There will be a total of 14 stations under it.
