36 seats up for grabs in upcoming MLC elections scheduled in first week of March

Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh, where political parties are making equations for the assembly elections, on the other hand, MLC elections are also upcoming. MLC (Local Body) elections have also been announced in Uttar Pradesh.

The elections will be held on 36 seats in Uttar Pradesh. The process of voting for MLC will be held on March 3 and 7. The result of these MLC elections will be declared on March 12.

Before this, the results of the UP assembly elections will also be out on March 10. The term of 36 Legislative Council Members (MLCs) elected by the local bodies in Uttar Pradesh is ending on 7 March 2022.

Meanwhile, assembly elections are being held in the state. On 7 March, the sixth phase of assembly elections will be held in Uttar Pradesh. The process of voting for MLC will be held on March 3 and 7. The Election Commission had sought details of 36 MLC seats and voter list information from the government.

Polling will be held in 29 seats in the first phase and six seats in the second phase. The notification for the first phase will be issued on February 4, while February 11 will be the last date for filing nominations. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on February 14 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is February 16. Voting will be held on March 3 from 8 am to 4 pm.

In the first phase, Moradabad-Bijnor, Rampur-Bareilly, Badaun, Pilibhit-Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Kheri, Lucknow-Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, Sultanpur, Barabanki, Bahraich, Azamgarh-Mau, Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Varanasi, Mirzapur-Sonbhadra, Allahabad , Banda-Hamirpur, Jhansi-Jalaun-Lalitpur, Kanpur-Fatehpur, Etawah-Farukhabad, Agra-Firozabad, Mathura-Eta-Mainpuri, Aligarh, Bulandshahr, Meerut-Ghaziabad and Muzaffarnagar-Saharanpur will vote.

In the second phase, polling will be held in Gonda, Faizabad, Basti-Siddharthnagar, Gorakhpur-Maharajganj, Deoria and Ballia. The second phase notification will be issued on February 10, while February 17 is the last date for filing nominations. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on February 18 and February 21 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations.

Who will vote in elections

In the elections to be held on 36 seats of the local body quota of the Legislative Council, the members of the District Panchayat, the members of the Kshetra Panchayat, the village head, the members of the urban bodies, the Municipal Corporation, the Municipality and the Nagar Panchayat, as well as the elected members of the Cantt Board are also voters.  Local MLAs and local MPs are also voters.
