A Child’s career should be based on aptitude says Governor Anandiben Patel

Lucknow: The 10th convocation ceremony of Dr. Shakuntala Mishra National Rehabilitation University, Lucknow was held  under the chairmanship of State Governor and visitor  Anandiben Patel. The Governor inaugurated the function organized at the Atal Auditorium of the University with the message of water conservation by offering water in the Kalash through Jal Bharo programme.

In her address on this occasion, the Governor congratulated all the degree and medal winning students for their bright future and said that disabled children have immense abilities and skills. These children are talented. She said that children should move forward according to their interests.

Children should choose their own interest in the field of education. Parents should assess the interest and skill potential of their children and provide proper guidance.

Praising Shakuntala Mishra National Rehabilitation University, the Governor said that it is different from normal universities. Developing skills among disabled students, bringing light into their lives and giving them a good future is a commendable task.

The Governor shared her experience of Gujarat and also discussed the work done for the disabled people. She described the establishment of Disabled Welfare Trust of India and a school for disabled people in Surat by Padmashree  Kanubhai Hasmukh Bhai Taylor, who is working for the welfare of disabled people, as a commendable effort.

She said that there are many people in the society who are associated with various types of social work. Work being done for the development of disabled people is praiseworthy. While congratulating the meritorious students who got the medals, the Governor also encouraged those students who got the medals.

She told the students who missed the medal by a few points that not everyone gets a medal but do not be discouraged by this. In the future, success will be achieved through dedication, hard work and setting goals. She encouraged all the degree holders to remain progressive and achieve success.

On this occasion, the chief guest of the convocation, Padmashree Dr. Kanubhai Hasmukhbhai Taylor, founder of the Disabled Welfare Trust of India, said that it is very important to have arrangements for education and training for the disabled people. Describing the land of Uttar Pradesh as a sacred land, he said that having Dr. Shakuntala Mishra National Rehabilitation University for the education of the disabled here is a huge system, which is the best system in the world. He discussed the Governor’s guidance for the disabled and the special work done in Gujarat and praised the important works done on his decisions and said that only with his help they could make education arrangements for the disabled in Gujarat.

He shared his experiences with the students and inspired them to move ahead in life. Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Rana Krishna Pal Singh presented the progress report of the University before the Visitor.
Minister of State (Independent Charge), Backward Class Welfare and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Shri Narendra Kashyap, while congratulating the students on receiving the medal/degree, said that this university has been able to make its prominent place in the Asian continent. He said that it is a matter of pride to have universities for disabled people in Lucknow and Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh. He also appreciated the Governor’s guidance in this direction.

In the convocation ceremony, the Governor distributed degrees to a total of 1622 students. Degree recipients included 832 girls and 790 boys. 50 researchers were also awarded Ph.D. in the ceremony.  52 gold medals, 45 silver and 45 bronze medals were awarded to meritorious students. A total of 142 medals were awarded to 112 meritorious students in the ceremony, out of which boys won 53 medals and girl students won 89 medals. 08 disabled students won 11 medals.

In the function, the Governor distributed clothes, fruits and sweets to 30 visually impaired girls of Government Sparsh Vidyalaya and Anganwadi kits to 05 Anganwadi centres. In each kit distributed, along with children’s reading material, toys, materials for children to sit at the center and other uses, tricycles were also provided for the use of disabled children at each Anganwadi center. On this occasion, a boy and a girl were also awarded by the Governor for their excellent performance in yoga and traditional sports. On this occasion, the Governor also released a souvenir based on the achievements and work plans of the university.

In the convocation ceremony, Additional Chief Secretary to Governor Dr. Sudhir Mahadev Bobde, Principal Secretary for Disabled People and Empowerment  Subhash Chandra Sharma, Special Officer Education, teachers of all the faculties of the university, officer employees, students and visually impaired students studying in basic and secondary schools were present. Girl students were also present.
