A Lakh diyas dotted the Gomti facade on Diwali night

Not just did Ayodhya make a record of sorts for lighting up the ghats with record number of diyas, but it is now coming to the fore that even back home in Lucknow a record was made on Diwali night. As Ganesha and Lakshmi graced homes to usher in good and prosperity, the city saw a record one lakh diyas being lit up at the Jhulelal Vatika which saw unique cow dung diyas dot the ghats on ‘Gaumay Deepotsav’ making Diwali a one of a kind affair. The event which saw this unique feat being achieved was organized by Lucknow Municipal Corporation, where diyas made at Kahna Upvan, a shelter home for cows were litup. These diyas were made out of a mixture of cow dung, gilloy and tulsi. The remains of these diyas reportedly can be used as manure later. The civic body purchased oil worth over Rs 2.8 lakhs for lighting the diyas. Most lamps were arranged in forms of Ganesha, Laxmi and Swastika sign. People who turned up at the event were seen coming with families to enjoy the festival and were seen taking selfies and making videos. Among the prominent visitors to the event were deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma, urban development minister Ashutosh Tandon, Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia and chief priest of Mankameshwar Mandir among others. The Deputy CM said, he is elated that cow dung is proving to be a important resource to better revenue. Besides lamps, LMC has started making phenyl from the cow urine.”
