Agneepath is dedicated to youth: Central Command GOC -IN-C Lt Gen Yogendra Dimri

Armed forces will have a younger, fitter, diverse profile to meet the challenges of the future

Lucknow: GOC-IN-C of Central Command Lt Gen Yogendra Dimri told in a press conference in Lucknow  that Agneepath, an attractive recruitment scheme for Indian youth to serve in the Armed Forces, has been started. The youth selected under this scheme will be called Agniveer. Agneepath allows patriotic and motivated youth to serve in the armed forces for a period of four years.

He said that the Agneepath scheme has been designed to enable the youth profile of the Armed Forces. It will provide opportunities to the youth who may be willing to wear uniforms by attracting young talents from the society which are in line with the contemporary technological trends and supply skilled, disciplined and motivated manpower in the society.

As for the Armed Forces, it will raise the youth profile of the Armed Forces and provide a new resource of ‘Josh’ and ‘Jazba’, as well as a transformative shift towards a more technologically savvy Armed Forces – which in fact Time is required. It is envisaged that the implementation of this scheme will reduce the average age of the Indian Armed Forces by about 4-5 years.

The national benefits immensely from the communication of highly motivated youth with a keen sense of self-discipline, diligence and focus who will be sufficiently skilled and able to contribute in other fields. The dividends of a short term military service for the nation, society and the youth of the nation are immense.

This includes the availability of trained personnel to promote national security in times of patriotism, teamwork, increased physical fitness, loyalty to the country and external threats, internal threats and natural calamities.

This is a major defense policy reform initiated by the government to usher in a new era in the HR policy of the three Services. The policy, which comes into force with immediate effect, will govern enrollment for all three services thereafter.

During this period of service to the nation, Agniveers will be bestowed with various military skills and experience, discipline, physical fitness, leadership qualities, courage and patriotism. After this tenure of four years, Agniveers will be inducted into civil society where they can contribute immensely in the process of nation building. The skills acquired by each Agniveer will be recognized in a certificate to be part of their unique resume. Agniveer, on completion of four years of tenure in his youth, will be mature and self-disciplined with a sense of bettering himself both professionally and personally. The avenues and opportunities that will open up for his progress in the civil world after Agniveer’s tenure will certainly be of great benefit in the direction of nation building. In addition, a service fund of around Rs 11.71 lakh will help Agniveer pursue his future dreams without the financial pressure that usually happens to the youth from the economically disadvantaged sections of the society.

Persons selected for enrollment as regular cadre in the Armed Forces shall be required to serve for an additional period of service of a minimum of 15 years and shall be eligible for Junior Commissioned Officers/Other Ranks in the Indian Army and their equivalent in the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force and Non-combatants enrolled in the Indian Air Force will be governed by the existing terms and conditions of service as amended from time to time.

The scheme will promote a more youthful and technically war-fighting force by ensuring a fine balance between young and experienced personnel in the armed forces.
