Ahead of 2024, Opposition forces start giving their chess moves shape

Special Correspondent

New Delhi / Patna: Politics from Patna to Delhi has heated up these days due to the action of central agencies. The Congress has openly supported Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family against the action of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). At the same time, it is refraining from speaking openly about the arrest of senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia. The future strategy of Congress is visible in both the political stands.

Even though the Lok Sabha elections are to be held in 2024, the chessboard has started taking shape. The Congress party has also started its preparations. These days the opposition seems to be divided into two camps. In one camp there are parties like Aam Aadmi Party, Samajwadi Party, KCR’s party BRS.

At the same time, in the second camp, Congress and other opposition parties are seen making a strategy for 2024. However, so far no camp has presented a face against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Recently, nine leaders of eight parties wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the arrest of Manish Sisodia. There was no signature of any Congress leader on this letter.

At the same time, the name of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is constantly taking the initiative of opposition unity to defeat BJP in 2024, did not appear. Among the leaders whose names were mentioned in the letter addressed to the Prime Minister are K Chandrashekhar Rao, Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann, Tejashwi Yadav, Farooq Abdullah, Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray and Akhilesh Yadav.

Congress’s old ally Lalu Yadav

The association of Lalu Yadav and Congress is very old. Presently both the parties are running the government together under the leadership of Nitish Kumar in Bihar. Disagreements did happen even in very difficult times, but both the parties have not lost their company. This is the reason why the Congress has not delayed in opposing the ED action against Lalu Yadav.

Along with this, the strategy for 2024 is also clearly visible in it. The Congress seems to be preparing to jump into the electoral fray in Bihar in alliance with the RJD. If JDU also stays together, then the path may prove difficult for BJP in Bihar.

Suspense over Congress, AAP continues

Even though Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party continues to curse the BJP, there is no soft corner for the Congress either. AAP first ousted the Congress from power in Delhi, then defeated it in Punjab as well. Both the parties remain vocal against the BJP on any issue, but have come together on very few occasions. There is little chance that the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party will come together in the 2024 battle.
