Lucknow: As U.P waits with bated breath to see if the Yogi government will be able to pull out a rabbit out of the hat, there is already growing buzz that the five expressway projects are likely to get a much needed push this budget. All this as this will be the last budget before U.P. goes to polls next year.
The expressway projects which are being closely watched by the government and political watchers are slated to be very important from the point of view of industrial development, employment and economic development. To ensure these projects complete at the right time, the budget allocation for the same will be key. In the first six months of this year, while vehicles will start plying on Purvanchal Expressway, construction of Ganga Expressway from Meerut to Prayagraj is also in the pipeline.
The state is among the few where a number of expressway proiects have been decided on in times to come. Meanwhile the work of Gorakhpur Link Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway is going on at a rapid pace.
A new expressway project from Ghazipur to Ballia in close proximity to Purvanchal Expressway will also start soon. In the current financial year 2020-21, the government had alloted about Rs 9 thousand crore for the expressway and defense corridor. That is why the work of the expressway continued rapidly despite the Corona period. The construction of Bundelkhand Expressway and Gorakhpur Link Expressway is also going on this year. If needed, the budget will be arranged by bringing supplementary budget in August-September.
The financial year 2021-22 for this expressway will be arranged for about Rs 1855 thousand crore. This amount will be spent on buying land for the expressway. However, UPDA will also take a loan from Hudco of Rs 2900 crore. Actually, about 10 thousand crore rupees are needed to buy land. The government has targeted to buy 90 percent of the land by June. In such a situation a huge amount is required for this work.
Film City and Jewar Airport
The ambitious project of Yogi government will be budgetary management for the initial work of Film City. The DPR for this project is scheduled to arrive this month. After this, further work has to be done by selecting the developer. Construction work of Jewar Airport will also start this year. Necessary funds will also be made in the budget for purchasing land in the Defense Corridor.
