All eyes on Purvanchal as saffron sweeps U.P.

Lucknow: People are getting impatient about the results of about a dozen VIP seats of Gorakhpur-Basti division. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is the BJP candidate from Gorakhpur city seat, discussions were going on regarding the difference between victory and defeat. After Gorakhpur, the most discussed seat is Fazilnagar, from where Swami Prasad Maurya is in the fray from SP. Apart from these two seats, state government ministers are in the fray from Etawa, Bansi, Pathardeva and Rudrapur, while Congress national spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh is contesting from Rudrapur, Congress state president Ajay Kumar Lallu from Tamkuhiraj.

In the 2017 assembly elections, the saffron flag was waved in the Gorakhpur-Basti division. With the help of Modi wave, BJP had won 35 out of 41 seats in both the mandals, while one seat went to BJP’s ally Apna Dal (S) and one seat to SubhaSP. This time the alliance of Subhasp is with SP while Nishad Party is involved in BJP alliance. Nishad Party is contesting on four seats while Apna Dal (S) is again contesting on Shohratgarh seat of Siddharthnagar.

Eye on Swami Prasad Maurya in Fazilnagar

In the Fazilnagar seat of Kushinagar, cabinet minister Swami Prasad Maurya, who left the BJP and joined the SP, is trying his best. BJP has fielded MLA Ganga Singh Kushwaha’s son Surendra Kushwaha and BSP has fielded former SP district president Ilyas Ansari as its candidate. Congress has bet on Sunil aka Manoj Singh.
