Lucknow: Speculation about the extension of service of Additional Chief Secretary Home Avnish Kumar Awasthi, one of the most powerful officers in the UP government continues. In the corridors of power, where some people are discussing about his extension, there are some people who are discussing about the news of him not getting his extension.
Additional Chief Secretary Home Avnish Kumar Awasthi is retiring on August 31. At the same time, there is speculation about his service extension in the corridor of power. But, till now no correspondence has been done from the center to the state government. Because of this, the scope of service expansion is also being told less.
In such a situation, after two days, the suspense remains intact about who will be the head of the Home Department.
At the same time, there is a discussion among those higher in the ladder that the process of giving one year extension to the current Additional Chief Secretary Home was started, but it could not be agreed at the top level. After which speculations are now being made for a three-month extension of service.
The final decision has to be taken from the center, so everyone is looking towards what will be the final result, extension of service or retirement. On the other hand, if Awasthi does not get extension of service, then who will be the next head of the Home Department is a big question. If Awasthi retires, he will most likely be replaced by one among Deepak Kumar, Principal Secretary, Basic Education Department, Sanjay Prasad, Principal Secretary, Information Department, or Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary, Urban Development, for the Home Department. However, the curtain from this suspense will be lifted only till August 31 or September 1.
Current Additional Chief Secretary Home has big responsibilities. Avnish Kumar Awasthi is a 1987 batch IAS officer. They are counted among the officers closest to the Chief Minister.
In 2017, when Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister, Awasthi, who returned from the Center, was given the responsibility of tourism department and UPDA and UpSa along with ACS information.
After this, on July 31, 2019, Awasthi was also given the responsibility of the Home Department. At present, apart from the Home Department, he is also in charge of the CEO of UPEDA and Upsa, Energy, Prisons and Reforms Administration, Intelligence, Vigilance, Visa Passport, Additional Chief Secretary of Charitable Affairs and DG Jail.
