Bengaluru: The mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is over and 10 franchise teams chose teams fiercely. The new franchise team Gujarat Titans has given place to maximum all-rounders in its team. Head coach Ashish Nehra has given the reason behind this. Nehra believes that Gujarat Titans have built a strong, all-round team but the success of this new Indian Premier League franchise depends on how the players play together.
Former India fast bowler Nehra was present in the mega auction along with the coach of the World Cup winning team, Gary Kirsten, who is also the team’s batting coach. Asked whether Gujarat Titans have made a strong team, Nehra said, “Yes, not only Gujarat Titans, all IPL teams are good.” “It will depend on how they perform together, how they harmonize together. I have seen after the auction that many teams appear to be the strongest, but that doesn’t mean they will win the IPL. That never happens. It doesn’t work like this, the game doesn’t work like this.’
Gujarat Titans, one of the two new teams to play in the IPL this season, will be led by Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Apart from captain Hardik, the franchise has added eight more all-rounders, including Rahul Tewatia, who was bought by the team for Rs 9 crore. Nehra said, “It is a new franchise and we have been able to build a very good, all-round team. When you talk about T20 format, you need an all-rounder and we have done that.
Gujarat’s team includes India opener Shubman Gill, Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan, England attacking batsman Jason Roy, Australia’s Matthew Wade, senior India pacer Mohammed Shami and New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson.
