Lucknow: Unlike popular notion that students good in sports can’t perform well in science, a Lucknow University student has bucked the trend by striking a balance between both.
Shreya Kumari, a 20-year-old student of BSc (second year)won multiple national championships in soft tennis apart from doing well in academics.
She has now been selected for the “Pirie Memorial Gold Medal” which is conferred to the best sportsperson of the University. She is also a recipient of the Rani Laxmi Bai award, given by the UP government to outstanding sportspersons. Shreya has the distinction of having played 21 national and international championships and winning 18 of them. She took inspiration from her father who is a lawn tennis player and regional sports officer in Aligarh. She started her journey at the age of six.
“I want to make my country proud by clinching as many international level medals as I can,” she said.
