BJP goes against tradition to field Sushma Kharkwal as Mayor candidate for Lucknow

Lucknow: BJP has declared Sushma Kharkwal as its candidate for the post of Mayor in Lucknow. For the first time after 1995 in Lucknow, BJP has not repeated its candidate for the post of mayor.

First Dr. SC Rai became Mayor for two consecutive terms and after that BJP made Dr. Dinesh Sharma its candidate for two consecutive terms, but after making Sanyukta Bhatia its candidate in 2017, BJP did not make its candidate again in 2023 and  Sanyukta Bhatia’s dream has been shattered by making Sushma Kharwal a candidate.

Not only Sanyukta Bhatia but her daughter-in-law Reshu Bhatia was also hoping for a ticket. Given the strong penetration of her family in the RSS, the candidature was also considered strong, but the BJP organization had a different thinking. It has given a chance to Sushma Kharkwal, who has been fighting for the party for a long time.

Sushma Kharkwal is a Pahari Brahmin. In the assembly elections of the year 2022, the party had fielded a Brahmin candidate in only one of the five seats in the metropolis i.e. Cantt.

Cantt has been considered as the winning seat of BJP. This time BJP does not want to leave any stone unturned. This is the reason why the party has fielded candidates other than those known in political circles.
