BJP humbled in Panchayat elections with key districts going to SP, BSP

Lucknow: After facing a bitter defeat in West Bengal, the BJP has now suffered a major setback in Uttar Pradesh Panchayat elections. It is most religiously and politically important districts of the state,  the saffron force has suffered a beating in the hands of the socialist Samajwadi Party. These districts include Ayodhya, Kashi and Mathura. The Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party  has done much better compared to the BJP here.

The biggest shock to the BJP is in Ramnagri Ayodhya. In Ayodhya district, there are 40 seats of total Zilla Panchayat members, out of which SP claimed to win 24 seats. BJP has got only 6 seats here. Independents have won 12 seats. The BJP claims that the independents are with them.

BJP’s performance in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi is also worrying for them. After the MLC election, the BJP has also lost in the district panchayat elections in Kashi. Out of 40 seats in the District Panchayat, BJP has got only 8 seats. While SP has claimed that it won 14 seats. Talking about BSP, it has won five seats here, Apna Dal (S) has got 3 seats in Varanasi. Aam Aadmi Party and Omprakash Rajbhar’s Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party have also got 1-1 seats. 3 Independent candidates have also won.

Bahujan Samaj Party has won in Mathura district, the city of Lord Krishna. 12 candidates of BSP have won. The RLD has won 8 seats with party candidates. Whereas BJP was reduced to 9 seats. SP had to run from 1 seat. 3 independents won. Just eight months before the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, the panchayat election was considered as a semi-final of 2022.

This election is important for the ruling BJP as well as the opposition Samajwadi Party, BSP and Congress.
