Kerala: Days after Metro Man E Sreedharan took the political plunge by joining the BJP, the word on ground is that he could very well be the chief ministerial face for the elections in Kerala.
The buzz has grown louder after an announcement was made via a tweet by Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan.
The Kerala unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has recommended his name as the chief ministerial face of the party for the coming Assembly election.
The final decision to this effect however rests with the central leadership. After Union Minister Muraleedharan’s tweet, it is certain that he is most likely to be the CM face.
Informing the media about the decision was president, K Surendran.
Sreedharan joined the BJP only last month and ever since speculation of his vying for the topost is rife.
Sreedharan has the distinction of leading from the front when it comes to laying the Konkan Railway and is also widely acknowledged as the architect of the Delhi Metro.
Sreedharan at 89 is 14 years older than the present unwritten age limit of 75 years adopted by the BJP.
Sreedharan by his own account was not keen to become Governor or accept any such post, and wanted to serve the people.
Insiders suggest that BJP which has a very limited following in Kerala, wants to field a prominent figure with the view to expanding its base.
