With Indian sport gradually becoming a part of the academic curriculum, many youngsters are now starting young when it comes to training in their choice of sport and even playing at the University level. Acting as a good platform for young cricket talent to showcase their skills, after the super rounds of city qualifiers and regional rounds now the Red Bull campus cricket ninth edition is back to Ekana’s pitch. Currently underway at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, it is the only global cricket tournament for university students. Having started from 30th November it will continue till 4th December 2020. The tournament will see 8 of the best teams from across the country battling out for supremacy.
In the league stages apart from the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, matches are also being played at Jaipuria Cricket Academy. The semi-finals are slated for 3rd December with the two best teams competing in the grand finale of Red Bull Campus Cricket National Finals on 4th December 2020.
Interestingly the Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals is keeping an eye on the talent to co – opt bright hands from the annual international T20 tournament for college cricket teams – Red Bull Campus Cricket. Having travelled across the country, the tournament has seen city qualifiers happen across 29 cities in India.
Among the top eight team in the final league are DAV College Jalandhar and SS Jain Subodh College Jaipur from North Zone. New LJ College Ahmedabad and DAVV College Indore from West Zone. SOA University Bhubaneswar and YBN College Ranchi from East and Jain College Bengaluru and Loyala College Chennai from South.The winner will be crowned the best cricket university in the country at The Red Bull Campus Cricket National Finals in Lucknow.
