Cell blocks discussed threadbare at AIMMS Rae Bareli workshop

Rae Bareli: CME and Hands on Workshop on the topic “Cell blocks: Principle, preparation and utility “ held at AIIMS Raebareli in the Deparment of Pathology. The speaker was a renowned Pathologist, Dr Radhika Srinivasan from PGIMER Chandigarh.

She delivered her talk on “Cell blocks-The game changers in diagnostic Cytopathology” and expressed the importance of cell block preparation over core biopsy, advantage of Sodium Alginate method over Plasma Thrombin method and cost effectiveness of cell block over biopsy.

The CME was inaugurated by the Executive Director of AIIMS Raebareli, Dr Arvind Rajwanshi, who himself is a renowned pathologist which was followed by his talk on “Cell blocks: Techniques and Utility “.

The talks were moderated by Dr(Prof) N. Krishnani from SGPGIMS, Lucknow and Dr(Prof) Amit Chauhan from AIIMS, Raipur. Demonstrations of cell block preparation in the Department of Pathology by Sodium Alginate Method was done. Over 40 delegates attended the CME came from not only different part of the state but also from neighboring and distant states like Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Haryana and Chhattisgarh.

The Dean Academy and HOD of Pathology Dr Niraj Kumari took the privilege in successful conduction of the workshop on high notes. The department is already specialized in the process of cell block preparation and using additional ancillary techniques over it including IHC and molecular techniques.
