Lucknow’s party people enjoy their customary New Year’s Eve, but with caution
Lucknow: As markets open up and life gradually crawls back towards normalcy, this New Year’s Eve presented some pleasing scenes for the first time in many months. There was fun, laughter and gay abandon.
As youth hotspots like lounges and bars offered the best for young New Year revellers, even if not so grand, the end of the year 2020 saw traditional forms of celebrations match strides with the young and party hoppers. In most of the posh hotels keeping the scare of COVID in mind, only family dinner was the buzzword. Youngsters decked up in their best and were seen enjoying and welcoming the New Year on a more hopeful and positive note. But for good reason – and to the disappointment of many – the usual New Year events were missing.
At the Taj Mahal Hotel in Gomti Nagar a multi-cuisine buffet was on offer. Guests also got to enjoy an evening piano session. A five-piece band at night further lit up the mood with a lead vocalist belting out peppy Western and Indian numbers. At Lebua in Mall Avenue,a lavish spread was laid out for all loved ones.
There were no entertainment programs this time at the Hyatt Hotel in Gomti Nagar. In its place, a special dinner menu was on offer. Kids had a special children zone for them to chill out.
A fun entertainment show was also part of the bouquet of offerings at the Hilton Garden Inn, along with a special dinner menu. Even Ramada this time kept things lowkey with a curated menu for the occasion. The timings of the stay were fixed till 12 night.
For the young and happening, places like Molecule, Boombox, Vintage Machine Kitchen & Cocktail Bar, The Drowning Street, Lord of the Drinks, The Flying Saucer, Mocha among others had offers in both coolly curated menus and beverages.
For the Faithful
Apart from the celebrations aplenty across the most happening places in town, for those who believe in divine intervention, several temples opened their portals so that one could bid the year goodbye.
Special prayers were organized at Hanuman Setu Temple. As per chief priest Chandrakant Dwivedi, a bhajan and Sunderkand recitation made the occasion memorable. Meanwhile the Mahant of the Mankameshwar Mandir, Mahant Divya Giri performed an aarti in the temple to wish for corona liberation.
At the Panchmukhi Hanuman temple, priest Pavan Mishra said the New Year was welcomed with hymns. Not just the new and old Hanuman temple, even the Mahakal temple in Rajendra Nagar saw similar activity as also in Shri KhatuShyam Temple.
Meanwhile the Naka Gurudwara had a midnight farewell to bid the old year goodbye with delivery of saffron milk and gajar halwa to welcome the New Year.
A special prayer on behalf of the Christian community was held in the churches at eight in the morning of the New Year.
Everyone had one wish for 2021 – a healthy, safe and normal year for all.
