CM Yogi aims to tap the tourism potential of Uttar Pradesh for brighter future

Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh is going to develop the state as a ‘tourism state’. For this, it has been decided to give a rebate of up to Rs 40 crore to private investors to beautify lesser known tourist places along with major tourist places and to encourage investment in the state’s tourism sector. The new tourism policy has been approved in the meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in which investors have been given a lot of relief for contributing to the development of focus tourist destinations. It is noteworthy that the Government of Uttar Pradesh has taken several initiatives to attract tourists from all over the world. In these, a blueprint has been prepared for setting up new alternative tourist centers besides making circuits by connecting similar religious, geographical and natural sites. Along with this, along with an investment of 20 thousand crores in the tourism sector, a target has also been set to create 10 lakh jobs.

All types of investors will get subsidy

Under the new policy, various types of grants have been given to the entrepreneurs investing in the state. Under this, those investing between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 10 crore will get a rebate of 25 percent or up to Rs 2 crore. At the same time, entrepreneurs investing between Rs 10 crore and Rs 50 crore will be provided subsidy of 20 percent or up to Rs 7.5 crore. Similarly, entrepreneurs with investment between Rs 50 crore and Rs 200 crore will get subsidy of 15 percent or up to Rs 20 crore. At the same time, investors between Rs 200 crore and Rs 500 crore will be given a rebate of 10 percent or up to Rs 25 crore. Subsidy will be provided at 10 per cent or Rs 40 crore, whichever is higher, to premier investors investing capital above Rs 500 crore.

5 percent additional relaxation for women and SC-ST

An additional 5 percent subsidy will be provided to women entrepreneurs and SC and ST entrepreneurs for tourism unit proposals in Focus Tourism Destination (FTO). In addition, eligible tourism units will be provided interest subsidy of 5 percent of the loan amount or a maximum of Rs 25 lakh per year for a maximum period of 5 years on bank loan amount up to Rs 5 crore for setting up tourism units. Registered tourism unit will be eligible for either interest subsidy or capital subsidy grant only.

100% exemption in stamp duty and registration

In the new tourism policy, there is also a provision to give 100 percent exemption in stamp duty and registration fee on first purchase, lease, transfer of land for establishment or expansion of tourism units. A provision has also been made for complete exemption in land use change and development charges for all new and expanding tourism units. Apart from this, EPF subsidy on employment generation, special incentive for disabled friendly units, special incentive for information and technology enablement, incentive up to Rs 50 thousand for innovation specific, assistance of up to Rs 10 lakh for research in tourism, hospitality industry. Apart from this, an incentive of up to 5 lakh has been arranged for the conservation, promotion and revival of rare and endangered art, culture and cuisine of the state.

Special Incentives for Heritage Hotels

Many incentives have been given in the policy regarding the heritage unit as well. Subsidy of 25 percent of the capital investment or a maximum of Rs 5 crore will be provided to entrepreneurs operating heritage hotels through conservation, expansion, renovation of the unit without changing the basic nature of the heritage unit. There is a provision to give interest subsidy of up to 5 percent for 5 years on a loan of 5 crores. Both capital and interest subsidy will be admissible to heritage units. There is a provision for exemption in stamp duty on the land purchased for the establishment or expansion of heritage hotel. On the other hand, if land use change is necessary for the establishment of heritage hotel, there is a provision to make such change free of cost. There is also a provision to reimburse 50 percent of the license fee for bar license in the premises of heritage hotels in rural areas. On the other hand, the state government will make arrangements for an all-weather road and encroachment-free link road up to the heritage hotels. For uninterrupted power supply, electrical sub-stations, transformers will be arranged and attractive signages will be installed.

Will develop understanding of tourism in youth

In the policy, a plan has been made to develop the understanding, need and importance of tourism and culture among the youth and children from the very beginning. Under this, youth tourism clubs have been identified as a means to develop responsible and sustainable tourism in the country. Also Best Tour Operator, Best Wellness Centre, Best Hotel, Best Heritage Hotel, Best Eco Tourism Operator, Best Eco Resort, Best Homestay, Best Adventure in recognition of the exceptional initiatives and quality of service undertaken by various tourism businesses in the state. State tourism awards will be given to tour operators etc.
