Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as ‘Panna Pramukh’ for booth number 246 in Gorakhnath area for the Gorakhpur assembly seat. A “Panna Pramukh is a party worker/leader who is given a page of the electoral roll in a constituency and is expected to contact all the voters named in the page.”
The party has appointed 13,100 panna pramukhs in 13,800 booths in the urban and rural (partial) assembly seats of Gorakhpur city.
Former Union Finance Minister and MP Shiv Pratap Shukla and MLA Dr Radha Mohan Das Agarwal have also been appointed as Panna Pramukhs for booth number 350 of Gorakhpur Sadar assembly seat.
City BJP president Rajesh Gupta said, “Party office bearers and people sitting in the government have also been made Panna Pramukhs. This system was used for the first time in the Gujarat Assembly elections and the results were good.
After that, the emerald major system has been used. The party got success in many other states and there too.” A senior party functionary said Yogi Adityanath’s appointment as Panna Pramukh indicated that everyone in the BJP is essentially a party worker and holding a senior position does not mean that he was above other workers.
