New Delhi: The Cobra Unit of the Central Reserve Police Force will also have woman commandos. The CRPF has selected the first batch of women commandos. The CRPF currently has a total of six women battalions. Out of them 34 women commandos have been selected. They will undergo strict training for three months before joining the Commando Battalions for Resolute Action Unit.
Asv a part of the training, women commandos will be taught to operate modern weapons. Physical training will also be provided. They will also be taught how to protect oneself if surrounded by Naxalites in the forest. Officials of the CRPF say that after completing the training, these women commandos will be deployed in the Naxal influence areas along with the male commandos in the Cobra battalion.
CRPF sources have confirmed that 34 women commandos who were selected have suggested their names themselves. 200 more women commandos have suggested their names for this prestigious unit.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved 10 battalions of cobras trained in guerrilla warfare who will take on the Naxalites. Earlier two Cobra battalions were formed in 2008-2009. The number of battalions was increased in 2009-10, later to four. Thereafter, four more battalions were raised in 2010–11. The CRPF currently has 246 battalions.
