Cold wave alert issued in 18 districts of U.P.

Lucknow: The cold wave continues in the state and the minimum temperature in many districts dropped below five degrees Celsius on Sunday. Faizabad was the coldest with a minimum temperature of three degrees Celsius. According to officials of the Meteorological Department, the people of Lucknow are likely to get some relief from the bitter cold from Wednesday.

There is no hope of relief from the cold till Tuesday. Although the Meteorological Department has issued an alert for 18 districts regarding the cold. Temperature reached below three degrees in many cities

According to officials, the other districts that recorded low temperatures were Kanpur where the minimum temperature dropped to 3.1 degrees Celsius, followed by Prayagraj and Hamirpur at 3.2 degrees Celsius. Varanasi, Fursatganj, Jhansi, Orai, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Najibabad, Agra and Aligarh and others also recorded minimum temperatures between 3.8 and 4.4 degrees Celsius.

Dense fog enveloped Lucknow on Sunday Lucknow remained engulfed in dense fog till late night on Sunday, reducing the visibility to less than 50 metres. It was the second day in a row that the minimum temperature in the city dropped to 4.1 degrees Celsius, nearly 3.7 degrees Celsius below normal.

Even the sunshine in the afternoon could not provide much relief as cold icy winds were also blowing along with it. The city is likely to experience dense to very dense fog in the morning on Monday, while the minimum and maximum temperatures would settle at 4 and 16 degrees Celsius, respectively, said Mohammad Danish, senior scientist at the Meteorological Department, Lucknow.
