Congress veteran Pramod Tiwari gets promotion ahead of general elections
Lucknow: The Congress party has started making changes in view of the Lok Sabha elections. A big bet has been played on Pramod Tiwari, a strong leader of Uttar Pradesh and former cabinet, apart from this, Rajni Patil has also been given a big position in the Congress.
The Congress has decided to appoint its senior leader from Uttar Pradesh Pramod Tiwari as deputy leader in Rajya Sabha and Rajni Patil as whip. Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh gave this information. He tweeted, “Congress parliamentary party chief Sonia Gandhi has approved the appointment of Pramod Tiwari as deputy leader of the party in Rajya Sabha and Rajni Patil as whip.
The Rajya Sabha Chairman (Jagdeep Dhankhar) was informed about these appointments.” Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge is the leader of the party i.e. Leader of the Opposition in the Upper House. Ramesh plays the role of Chief Whip. The Congress has made these appointments two days before the second phase of the budget session beginning on March 13.
The party did not have a Deputy Leader in the House since Anand Sharma’s Rajya Sabha term ended early last year. Tiwari, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, is a Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan. Rajni Patil, who belongs to Maharashtra, is a member of the Upper House from her own state.
