Creativity with colours blossoms at AKTU campus

Lucknow: On the occasion of the 20th convocation ceremony of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, various cultural programs are being organized during the ongoing convocation week, under which Faculty of Architecture and Planning, at Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University organized a Rangoli and poster competition  at Tagore Marg campus. About 50 students of the first and second year of the faculty participated. And by participating in the Rangoli competition through their expression, they showed their talent by making attractive Rangoli through colors and showcased their skills. Students creatively expressed their feelings by filling colors in Rangoli. The students presented the topics of current social issues, creativity etc. in a very engaging manner.

Faculty’s art teacher and painter Bhupendra Kumar Asthana said Rangoli is India’s ancient cultural tradition and folk-art. There may be differences in the name and style of Rangoli in different regions, but there is enough similarity in the spirit and culture behind it.  This feature gives it diversity and also displays its different dimensions. It is usually made with dry and natural colors on auspicious occasions such as festivals, fasts, pujas, festive marriages etc.

It can have simple geometric shapes or figures of gods and goddesses. Their purpose is decoration and good luck. These are usually made by the women of the house. The themes of these traditional artefacts made on different occasions vary according to the occasion. The traditional colors used for this are ground dry or wet rice, vermilion, roli, turmeric, dry flour and other natural colors.

But now chemical colors are also being used in Rangoli. Rangoli is made in the middle or around the threshold of the door, the center of the courtyard and the place fixed for the celebration. Sometimes it is also made from sawdust of flowers, wood or any other object or grains like rice.

14 Rangolis were made in the competition. In which 50 students participated. The competition was organized in 14 groups. In which students participated enthusiastically and made Rangolis one after the other. The painter Mrs. Pratima Singh was in the jury of this competition, along with the art teachers of the faculty Mr. Girish Pandey, Dheeraj Yadav and Ratnapriya Kant were also present.

Asthana said that on this occasion the art teachers also shared various dimensions of Rangoli and its importance with the students. It was further told that the importance of Rangoli is not only for decoration but also at the scientific level. The positive and negative effects of colors have also been recognized by science and various medical practices. Rangoli made with different colors communicates positive energy in the surrounding environment. Rangoli is made in different ways in different states. Dean of the faculty, Dr. Vandana Sehgal, teachers of all the faculty etc. praised the attractive and creative Rangoli of the students. Group 6,12,13 were first, second and third in the competition and group 2,7 were selected for consolation by the jury.

Poetry recitation, debate, and essay competition were also organized. The organizer was Professor Priyanka Rastogi, Ekta. Topic was Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.  Students recited poetry and wrote essays on these topics.

The jury members of this competition were Professor Girish Pandey, Laxmikant Mishra, Professor Bhupendra Asthana, Professor Afaq Ahmed, Professor Sadab Saifi. Anand Mohan Mishra got first place in poetry recitation, Vivek second, Aman third and Khushi first in essay, Chiragveer second, Hrithik third. Rajhans, Lakshya Nivedita, Mansi in the debate.
