Davis Cup to give much needed fillip to sports activities in Uttar Pradesh – CM Yogi
Lucknow: It is a very memorable moment for Uttar Pradesh that after almost 23 years, Davis Cup is going to be organized in the capital Lucknow. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said these things on Friday. According to a statement, this competition will be played on knockout basis, in which the league matches will be held between India and Morocco on September 16 and 17 at the tennis court in Vijayant Khand Gomti Nagar. For this, special preparations have been made by the state government.
Yogi Adityanath said that he is confident that the players from different regions of India and from Morocco will feel happy to be associated with this event inside Uttar Pradesh. Through your sports, the youth of the country and the state will be inspired to become aware of sports and move forward through it. Chief Minister Adityanath said this on the occasion of the draw program of the Davis Cup World Group 2 matches between India and Morocco at his official residence on Friday.
Before this, the Chief Minister opened the draw and also announced the schedule of the matches. On this occasion, the Chief Minister honored the special guests who had come to Lucknow for the Davis Cup by giving them gifts. Former tennis legend Vijay Amritraj was also included in these. During this, players from both the countries were also honoured.
Referring to the infrastructure available for sports in the state, Adityanath said that in the last nine years, there has been a program to take forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Khelo India Khelo program or sports through the ‘Fit India Movement’.
All these have provided an excellent sporting environment across the country. He said that the Uttar Pradesh government is also working on a war footing to take forward the program of construction of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in the name of Major Dhyan Chand in Meerut.
