Washington: Outgoing President Donald Trump is known to have a good bonhomie with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has been instrumental in honouring Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the prestigious Legion of Merit award. Modi has been bestowed upon the honour for strengthening the strategic partnership between India and the United States under his leadership and advancing India as a global force.
Accepting the award on Modi’s behalf was India’s Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu. He was presented the award at the White House by US National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien. O’Brien not so long back tweeted that President Trump gave Prime Minister Narendra Modi the “Legion of Merit” award for strengthening the strategic partnership between US and India.
Interestingly Narendra Modi has received the highest honor ‘Chief Commander of the Legion of Merit’ award, which is given only to the government or the head of the nation. Modi has been widely acknowledged by the US for outstanding “leadership and vision, which has steadily pushed India towards emerging as a global power and strengthened the strategic partnership between the US and India to meet global challenges”.
O’Brien in another tweet said that Trump also honored Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia and former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe with the Legion of Merit.
This is not a first when such an honour has come Modi’s way. Prior to America, the others to shower their love on Modi include ‘Order of Abdulaziz Al Saud’, ‘State Order of Ghazi Amanullah Khan’ (2016), ‘Grand Caller of State of Palestine Award (2018),’ Order of Zayed Award by UAE, Russia’s’ Order of St. Andrew ‘(2019) among others.
