Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak the new Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association

Lucknow: Deputy CM Brijesh Pathak, who is interested in sports, has been included as chairman in the new executive body of the Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association. In the annual general body meeting of the BBD UP Badminton Academy located in Gomtinagar, the elections for the next four years executive body were held on Sunday, in which Braajesh Pathak, Deputy Chief Minister of the state and President of the UP Volleyball Association, was unanimously elected as the chairman.

Apart from this, no special changes have been made in the executive. Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association Chairman Viraj Sagar Das has been re-elected as President while Dr. Anandeshwar Pandey has been re-elected as General Secretary. Apart from this, IAS Dr. Navneet Sehgal has been made the working president and IAS Sanjay Prasad the senior vice-president, while Dr. Syed Rafat Zubair Rizvi has been appointed as the treasurer.

The election result was announced by the returning officer DC Mishra (Retd. IPS). In the election of senior members of the executive body of the UPOA, preference has been given to administrative officials and political personalities over sportspersons.

Shyam Singh Yadav (MP), Sudhir Garg (IAS), Dr.S.M. Bobde (IAS), Vagish Pathak (MLC), K.K. Ravindra Nayak (IAS), Shabina Yadav (President UP Weightlifting Association-Women), Sudhir Halwasiya, Ram Sakal Gurjar (Former Sports Minister), Sanjay Garg, Abhijeet Sarkar, Dhirendra Singh Sachan (IAS), Vijay Bahadur Pathak (MLC) were elected.

Joint Secretaries Sudharma Singh, Ajay Tripathi, Anil Mishra, Puneet Agarwal, Rajesh Kumar Singh, TP Havelia and  Swati Singh (women international player) have been elected.

On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak assured that the new team of UPOA will work with new energy and new determination to take sports forward in the state. Along with this, the Khelo India University is preparing from now itself for the good performance of UP in the Games. We will work to take the unit of Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association up to the block level so that the talents of UP get a bigger platform.”

Elected Executive President Dr. Navneet Sehgal said that the present state government is making continuous efforts for the development of sports and sportspersons. The new sports policy will be made public soon. Right now our focus is on hosting the University Games which will give a new direction to the state in the field of sports. 5000 sports grounds and basic facilities are being developed from state to village level. He said that sports associations lying inactive at the district level would be activated and strict action could be taken against the office bearers who ignore the instructions in this direction.
