Jaipur: As the Bharatiya Janata Party faces the ire of the farmers as they rally on the streets of the country, the recent Panchayati Raj election results in Rajasthan have proven to be a shot in the arm for the saffron force.
The results are not only unexpected but it has come in a state where the Congress is ruling. Voters have shown a thumbs up to the farm policies of BJP.
This win will give the BJP a much needed impetus to argue that the farm laws are basically pro-farmers benefiting them which also ensures support from farmers of Rajasthan.
The BJP as per sources will now try to use these leads as a means to convince people that they have their heart in the right place. The party will try and send out a message that the Opposition has been trying to create misunderstanding and confusion regarding the applicability of the three laws and they should not listen to them.
Interestingly the Panchayati Raj elections were carried out in 4371 constituencies across the state in Rajasthan. BJP has won 1990 while Congress could win 1856 seats. The BJP has also managed to surpass expectations in Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishad doing extremely well.
In Rajasthan there are 33 districts, out of which elections were held only in 21 districts. In them there are a total of 636 Zila Parishads. Of which the BJP bagged 353 seats while Congress could manage to win 252 seats only.
Poll watchers are calling this performance of the BJP, a major setback for the Congress Party which won the assembly elections two years ago. It was expected that the party would do very well in these elections. These results have surprised all because it was expected that due to farmers’ protest, the BJP might not get any support in panchayat elections.
