Lucknow: District Magistrate Surya Pal Gangwar has appealed everyone to take medicine in the Filaria eradication campaign starting from 10th February. He has also released a video for this. Dr. Bhupendra Tripathi, Country Lead, Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD), Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is also present with him in the video. The DM said in the appeal that filaria is an incurable disease. Filaria eradication campaign will be launched from February 10 to completely eradicate this disease from the district and the state. Under this, ASHA and health workers will go door-to-door and feed three medicines (DEC, Ivermectin and Albendazole). This medicine will be given according to age and weight but albendazole has to be chewed only. In the video, DM is telling that Filariasis is a disease spread by mosquitoes.
Its symptoms appear after five to 10 years. Problems like elephantitis and hydrocele arise. During the campaign, the management will have to ensure the responsibility of 100 percent medicine intake in the school as well. He said children below two years of age, pregnant women and people suffering from serious illness should not take filariasis medicine. Both the officers are seen appealing in the video that Filaria has to be rooted out, so we all have to cooperate fully in the Filaria eradication campaign.
