Dr. Surya Kant becomes chairman of ZonalTask Force (North Zone) of National Tuberculosis Elimination Program

Dr. Surya Kant will play an important role in the elimination of Tuberculosis from nine states of India

Lucknow: Professor Surya Kant, Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine, King George’s Medical University, has been elected as the Chairman of the Zonal Task Force (North Zone) of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program. The North Zone of the Zonal Task Force includes Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Out of 36 states and union territories in our country, in the North Zone nine states and union territories are included. In this way, Dr. Surya Kant will play an important role in the elimination of tuberculosis on one-fourth of India’s land. It is to be known that Dr. Surya Kant, Chairman of the UP State Task Force (TB Elimination)is providing leadershipfor the last several years in the state as well as in the country for TB elimination towards fulfilling Prime Minister’s dream to end TB by 2025. Under the leadership of Dr. Surya Kant, the Department of Respiratory Medicine has adapted a village, a slum area, and more than 100 TB children. Department provide full care and treatment of these children and make them disease free.

It is to be known that Dr. Surya Kant is working as Professor in the Department of Respiratory Medicine of KGMU since 17 years and has been playing an active role as Head of Department for 10 years. Apart from this, he has also written 19 books on medical science related subjects- TB, allergy, asthma, lung cancer, COPD etc. And so far, more than 700 research papers have been published in national and international journals, as well as 2 international patents to his credit. He is also credited with guiding about 200 MD/PhD students, directing more than 50 research projects. He is awarded with 19 fellowships, and 12 Oration Awards. So far, he has been honored with 157 awards by various institutions at international, national and state level. Dr. Surya Kant is also the brand ambassador of National Health Mission for COVID Vaccination.

Along with this, he has also been the past National President of Indian Chest Society, Indian College of Allergy, Asthma and Applied Immunology and National College of Chest Physicians (NCCP), national organizations of specialists in chest diseases. Along with this, he has also been the National President of Medical Science Division of Indian Science Congress Association and Dr. Surya Kant has been President of IMA, Lucknow and Chairman of UP IMA Academy of Medical Specialties and is currently the National Vice Chairman of IMA-AMS. He is spreading awareness about prevention and treatment of TB among people from last 25 years. In COVID-19 pandemic, he is playing major role in making people aware about corona virus, vaccination, medication through electronic/print/social media.
