Drip Irrigation aiding in better sugarcane production in state of Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: The Government of Uttar Pradesh has laid special emphasis on better management and distribution of agricultural inputs to increase sugarcane production at minimum investment of sugarcane farmers in the state. Sugarcane cultivation is being done by Sugar Industry and Sugarcane Development Department by setting up Drip Irrigation Plant for this purpose.

So far, sugarcane has been cultivated in the state by setting up a drip irrigation plant in an area of ​​21,065 hectares. In this way maximum production is being done by using less water.

Giving detailed information in this regard, Additional Chief Secretary Sugarcane and Sugar  Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy informed that 50 percent chemical fertilizers are saved due to the use of nutrients along with irrigation water (fertigation) and 50 percent irrigation by the establishment of this plant. Water is also saved. He said that with the help of Drip Irrigation Plant, cultivation of sugarcane has become possible even in alkaline and low rainfall areas.

Bhoosreddy informed that by adopting drip irrigation method, weeds in crops can be controlled easily and the farmers get reduction in the cost of cultivation of sugarcane and the farmer’s income is increasing.
