Efforts continue to nip power pangs in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government has given many facilities in the last six years, including providing 24-hour electricity to the people of the state, depositing electricity bills online, providing toll free numbers for electricity related complaints, reducing line losses.
This is the reason that in the state where there were 21.47 percent line losses in the year 2016-17, it has been reduced to 17.62 percent by January 2023. Not only this, AT&C losses have been reduced from 28.81 per cent to 26.83 per cent in the year 2016-17.
Along with this, in order to provide 24 hours electricity, the Yogi government has provided a total subsidy of more than 23 thousand crores in different heads in the current financial year. Apart from this, an additional subsidy of one thousand crores was also arranged in the supplementary budget for the year 2022-23.
Many schemes started for depositing electricity bills in rural areas
In the current financial year 2022-23, the Yogi government gave a total subsidy of 6503 crores to domestic electricity consumers to provide 24-hour electricity to domestic consumers. Similarly, subsidy of 7097 crore was given for private tubewells and 1250 crore was given by the Agriculture Department. Apart from this, 250 crore was given to weavers and 8007 crore was given as subsidy for loss funding. Overall, the Yogi government approved a total subsidy of 23107 crores in the current financial year for 24-hour power supply. Along with this, a link is being sent by the Yogi Government to the electricity consumers on their registered mobile number to pay and deposit the electricity bill, in which they are being given the facility to generate their own electricity bill online. In rural areas, consumers had to go to sub-division offices or electricity sub-stations located far away to deposit electricity bills. In such a situation, in July 2018, the Yogi government made arrangements for payment of electricity bills through public service centers (CSCs) in rural areas, removing their problem. Apart from this, arrangements have been made to pay electricity bills for the last two years through meter readers of Self Help Groups (Vidyut Sakhiyan), Ration Shops (PDS Shop), Cooperative Societies (PACS) and Billing Agencies, where consumer bill revision has been done. Work on war footing to install 40 lakh smart meters
In order to promote industries in the state, the Yogi government has given the facility to big consumers to get power supply through open exos. So far 245 big consumers have taken advantage of this facility. At the same time, a plan to install 40 lakh smart meters is being implemented in the state. So far, about 11.78 lakh smart meters have been installed in 12 cities of the state. With the installation of smart meters, there will be no need for manual meter reading. Along with this, a toll free number 1912 has been arranged to solve all the electricity related problems of the consumers, which is being monitored by the officials of Discom and Power Corporation. Consumers can lodge complaints regarding bills, power supply interruption, transformer failure, meter failure, new connections and electricity theft on this number. With this, out of 1.73 lakh complaints, 1.46 lakh complaints have been resolved in the Vidyut Samadhan week. A total of 71,000 complaints have been redressed online on the Sambhav portal. New vigilance teams have been formed in the Electricity Department, in which 88 raid teams are working, which are working to prevent power theft and minimize AT&C losses. Along with this, electricity theft prevention stations are functional in all 75 districts of the state.
