Electric Bus fleets to add to Public transport paraphernalia in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: The government is going to purchase e-buses for better transportation facilities in the cities of the state. E-buses will be run in 19 cities including 17 municipal corporations of the state. These buses will be operated under the PM e-Bus Seva Yojana.
Its proposal is being prepared by the Urban Development Department, which will soon be sent to the Central Government. Under the scheme, 150-150 buses will be run in big cities, 100-100 in medium cities and 50-50 in small cities.
At present, under the Fame India scheme of the Centre, small AC e-buses are being run in 14 cities of the state. About 300 more buses were to arrive in Phase-II. During this period, the Central Government launched the PM e-Bus service. The Urban Development Department will now demand new buses in the PM e-bus service. For this, the first phase of talks has taken place at the high level. The proposal is being prepared on this basis only. According to the proposal, 150-150 new buses will be run in big cities Lucknow, Kanpur and Ghaziabad. There is a proposal to run 100 buses each in Varanasi, Agra, Jhansi, Prayagraj, Meerut, Bareilly, Aligarh, Moradabad, Gorakhpur, Firozabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar.
Apart from this, 50-50 buses will be run in Ayodhya, Shahjahanpur, Mathura, Rampur and Saharanpur. 10 to 15 buses will be given to these cities in a phased manner. Within one to two years all buses will be made available to these cities. A proposal is also being prepared for the maintenance and charging of these buses, so that these buses can be maintained in a better way. City buses are being operated in 14 cities of the state.
Operation of CNG city buses was started under the JNNURM scheme of the Central Government. During that period, 260 city buses started operating in the capital Lucknow. Under the Fame India Scheme of the Central Government, currently 740 small AC e-buses are being run in 14 cities of the state, while 300 more e-buses were to be purchased under the Fame India Scheme. However, the government has launched the PM e-bus service. In such a situation, now new buses will not be purchased under the Fame India scheme.
Rates of monthly pass for city buses will be reduced.
City Transport Services Ltd. under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Dr. Roshan Jacob. The review meeting was held in the Commissioner Auditorium office. In the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner issued instructions to the concerned officers on many points. He said that the operation of electric buses should be increased in the city and routes should also be determined for the operation of buses. Divisional Commissioner directed that to increase the number of passengers in electric and CNG buses, the amount of monthly pass should be reduced, so that the dependence on own vehicles can be reduced and the traffic system should be smooth and easy. He also directed that some buses should be operated in the heritage zone also and the number of buses should be increased on weekends, so that the tourists coming to the heritage zone can get better transportation facilities. He instructed the officers to ensure timely compliance of all instructions. The Divisional Commissioner also directed to regularly monitor the transport system, so that no person has to face any problem.
The Divisional Commissioner directed MD City Transport to immediately remove old and contaminated CNG buses from the route, so that no accidents or mishaps occur. Along with this, the buses should also be repaired regularly, so that only fit buses operate on the route. Suitable places for electric bus shelters should be identified and a list should be made and made available immediately. Publicity should be done by installing LED screens in bus shelters, so that revenue can be increased. The Divisional Commissioner also took information from the officers about the work being done to increase the number of charging stations in the city. He directed that the number of charging stations should be increased by identifying locations in the city.
