Energy Minister AK Sharma calls for stemming billing issues

Lucknow: State’s Urban Development and Energy Minister  AK Sharma has called for sweeping reforms in the billing system. He has come down heavily on officials due to non-correction and frequent harassment of consumers by giving wrong bills.

Taking the matter seriously, the representatives of the billing agencies were strongly reprimanded.  He has warned that wrong billing and meter reading should be rectified soon.

If not, strict action will be taken against the billing agencies. He directed the Chairman of the Corporation that the consumers should take their own readings, which should be encouraged.

Energy Minister AK Sharma speaking at a meeting said billing, meter reading and reviewing revenue collection needs to be top priority.

He said that the Yogi government of the state has the intention of a zero-torrence policy on corruption. He said any laxity  will not be accepted under any circumstances. He said there are complaints about wrong bill  despite repeated warnings.

He said that to prevent irregularities in the works and agencies using modern technology for time bound monitoring
mentoring will be done. He said build software and upload meter reading data.  He said create a system for checking as well. Getting billing agencies to focus on their work and the emphasis will be on quality of billing.

AK Sharma directed to Director (Commercial) of all Discoms that all such wrongdoings of Rs. one lakh or above in  Discom, Monitoring of bills, which have been done, should be done swiftly.

Instructions were given to do and eliminate the problem of store readings from the root. He said that by taking a photo of the meter during the reading and reading it, billing will improve.

He said that Rs 13 crore per month is being spent on billing agencies, yet 50 percent of complaints are coming about bad billing.

Additional Chief Secretary Energy  Mahesh Kumar Gupta said that billing, Collection, Meter failure, Junk data clean, KYC as per target Data, downloaded billing etc. will have to be done in a quality manner.

He said that now every month the agencies have to review these works.

There will be a meeting with them. He said that 25 percent billing is such, in which. Less than 10 units of reading is coming per month. Such cases were also investigated

Instructions were also given to run the campaign till November 2022.

In the meeting, Chairman Power Corporation  M. Devraj, Managing Director Power Corporation  Pankaj Kumar, Managing Director of all DISCOMs, Billing Agencies were present.
