EV scene in Uttar Pradesh gets the Yogi government push
Lucknow: The Yogi government has taken a big decision to promote electric vehicles (EV) in the state. According to this, now no tax will be levied on the purchase of electric vehicle (EV) in Uttar Pradesh, nor will any registration fee be paid. The Uttar Pradesh government has taken this decision by modifying the notification issued earlier.
Under this, tax and registration fees will not have to be paid for up to 3 years. At the same time, this exemption will be valid for 5 years on the purchase of electric vehicles manufactured in the state itself. On behalf of the government, the Yogi government has given exemption from tax and registration fees on the purchase of EV for three years to the RTOs of all the districts.
According to the revised notification issued by Principal Secretary L. Venkateshwar Lu, according to the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022, 100 percent tax exemption will be given on electric vehicle (EV) sold and registered in Uttar Pradesh from October 14, 2022 to October 13, 2025.
On the other hand, in the fourth and fifth year of the effective period of the Electric Vehicle Policy notified on October 14, 2022, i.e. from October 14, 2025 to October 13, 2027, 100 percent rebate will be given on EVs manufactured, sold and registered in the state.
Clarification has also been given regarding the meaning of electric vehicle. According to this, EV refers to all automobiles using electric motors that are powered by batteries, ultracapacitors or fuel cells. These include all 2 wheeler, 3 wheeler and 4 wheeler Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV).
Amount will be automatically returned to the account
Now the government will not charge tax and registration fee on the purchase of EV. From October 14, 2022, 100 percent tax and registration exemption will be available on EV purchase for three years. With this, lakhs of existing electric vehicle owners in the state as well as consumers planning to buy EVs will get a big relief. Those who have purchased electric vehicles from October 14, 2022 till now and have paid tax and registration fees, their money will automatically be returned to their account. For this, the electric vehicle owner does not have to make any effort. This step of the government is likely to be of great benefit to the electric vehicle owners of the state. They will save a huge amount of money through the subsidy being given by the state government as well as the central government. There is a possibility that there will be a difference of Rs 15 to 20 thousand in the price of on-road two-wheelers and up to Rs one lakh in the price of cars. Now this difference of registration in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh will end. Now the rates will be same in both the states.
Subsidy to be given on factory price of vehicles with exemption in registration, tax
According to the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Policy, customers will also get huge subsidy on buying electric vehicles in the state. According to the policy, 15 percent subsidy will also be given on the factory price of electric vehicles purchased in the state. In this, a subsidy of Rs 5,000 per vehicle will be given for the first two lakh electric two-wheelers, a maximum of Rs 12,000 for the first 50,000 electric three-wheelers and up to Rs one lakh per vehicle for the first 25,000 electric four-wheelers. At the same time, subsidy of up to Rs 20 lakh per e-bus will be given on the first 400 buses purchased in the state. Also, a maximum of 1000 e-goods carriers will be given a subsidy of 10 percent on the factory price for the purchase of e-goods carriers up to 1,00,000 per vehicle. The government will also encourage government employees to buy electric vehicles. For this, the state government will also allow the employees to take advance.
