Farmers get much respite in electricity rates as elections near in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: Before the elections, the Yogi government has reduced the electricity rate, 50 percent discount will be given in the bill of domestic and tubewell.

Before the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi government has taken a big decision for the farmers. 50 percent rebate will be given in the electricity bill of farmers’ domestic and tube wells. State’s Energy and Additional Energy Resources Minister Shrikant Sharma wrote on his social media platform Koo, PM  Narendra Modi’s resolve to give big relief by reducing the electricity rates of private tube well connections by 50% in the direction of doubling the income of farmers. Hearty congratulations to CM Shri Yogi Adityanath ji. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, determined for the convenience and prosperity of the farmers, has decided to give 50 percent rebate in electricity rates for private tube wells relative to the current rates.

Posting on Koo, Shrikant Sharma said that in the new bills of private tube wells, the electricity rate in rural metered connections will be reduced from Rs 2/unit to Rs 1/unit and the fixed charge will be reduced from Rs 70 per horsepower to Rs 35/horsepower. In unmetered connection, the fixed charge will be Rs 85/horsepower instead of Rs 170/horsepower.

At the same time, in urban metered connections, the electricity rate will be reduced from Rs.6/unit to Rs.3/unit and fixed charge will be reduced from Rs.130/horsepower to Rs.65/horsepower. In Energy Efficient Pump, the rate will be reduced from Rs 1.65/unit to 83 paise/unit and the fixed charge will be Rs 35/horsepower instead of Rs 70/horsepower. In the UP elections, now there is a retaliation on election promises and gifts. Earlier, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav had announced to give 300 units of electricity free of cost.

The reality is that the power companies of UP are in loss of one lakh crore and the government is already giving a subsidy of 11 thousand crores, now farmers and common consumers are being promised free electricity up to 300 units. For this, the government will have to make more arrangements of 24 thousand crores. That is, a total subsidy of 35 thousand crores will have to be arranged.
