Bareilly: A Training program was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Indian Veterinary Research Institute Izzatnagar from 30 August 2022 to 02 September 2022 on the topic “Pig farming entrepreneurship development”. At the beginning of the four-day program, Dr. Brij Pal Singh, President, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, in his address said that since last three decades, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Bareilly has been motivating farmers and youth to adopt pig farming by providing training and technical support.
As a result, today farmers and youth in Bareilly district are looking for employment opportunities in pig farming by rising above social and economic status. Taking inspiration from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, they discussed about the farmers who are successfully rearing pigs and gave information about their business model. During the four-day training program, various breeds and scientific management of pigs, housing management, selection and breeding management, maintenance of pigs, method of preparing balanced diet at low cost, nutrition management in different stages, control of diseases and Prevention, internal and external parasite control, breeding problems and diagnosis in pigs, daily management of pig farm, biosecurity in pig farm, records to be kept in pig farm, economic evaluation of pig farm, meat production and processing and pig farming promotion was discussed in detail.
For this, detailed information was provided about financial assistance through government schemes. In the program, experts from Krishi Vigyan Kendra and scientists of various departments of Indian Veterinary Research Institute provided information through lectures and discussed their problems with the farmers. In the program, the story of successful farmers associated with Krishi Vigyan Kendra for the encouragement of farmers was also shown through film and necessary practical information was given to the participants by visiting the farm of Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Museum of Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Agricultural Technology Information Center. Dr. Mahesh Chandra, Joint Director (Extension Education) was present in the closing ceremony of the program.
In his address, he encouraged the participants and informed about the efforts being made by the institute for the promotion of pig farming. It was said that due to the use of new technologies related to pig farming, pig farming has become even easier and there has been an increase in pig production, not only this, income also increases due to reduction in cost of production.
He further advised the participants to stay connected with Krishi Vigyan Kendra for new technical information and distributed certificates after receiving training feedback from the participants. The pre and post training evaluation of trainees was also done by Krishi Vigyan Kendra. In the program, 45 farmers from Bareilly, Pilibhit, Mathura, Moradabad, Kasganj districts of the state registered their participation.
