Gorakhpur: Aiming to make Gorakhpur a textile hub, the government of the state is making efforts to make products of the sector more prominent. A week-long exhibition of local products of readymade garments is currently underway to promote textile as a key ODOP product. The initative has been taken under the strong supervision of the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. During this period, local entrepreneurs are being imparted training by the Union Ministry of Textiles on methods of production, design, and export possibilities.
The readymade garment exhibition will also be graced by the U.P CM Yogi Adityanath. Once a hotbed of handloom products, Gorakhpur, this sector had started to become obsolete due to negligence. Many migrated outside Gorakhpur. As MP of Gorakhpur from 1998 to 2017, Yogi Adityanath always raised the issue of handloom weavers in the Lok Sabha. After taking charge of the state in 2017, he prepared a roadmap for the vast possibilities of readymade garments sector here, along with improving the plight of weavers. With Yogi leading charge, readymade Garments have been included in a One District One Product (ODOP) scheme of Gorakhpur. In order to implement his announcement, Additional Chief Secretary MSME Navneet Sehgal, who came to Gorakhpur on 13 January during Gorakhpur festival, had a meeting with readymade garments entrepreneurs. They also talked about setting up a separate garment park here.
