Government schools in U.P. aim becoming self sufficient

Lucknow: To enable government schools to become financially self-sufficient by creating new avenues of income, the Uttar Pradesh government is considering a proposal to allow all secondary schools affiliated to the UP Board to rent out their premises for private events.

In UP, the Department of Secondary Education has prepared a policy draft and sought suggestions from the public. Education Director Mahendra Dev said that the proposal has been uploaded on the official website of Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education. The draft policy proposes that these institutions allow programs such as sports, cultural activities and exhibitions on vacant school grounds, allow use of school premises to host marriage ceremonies and other functions during school holidays, and allow cultivation of crops.

They can generate wealth by utilizing their resources by giving permission for plantation. The policy also proposes to set up a committee at the district level to consider proposals and grant permission. As per the state policy guidelines, the schools will first need to approve the proposal in the general body meeting of their management committees and then it will be sent to the district level committees for approval.
