Green Park Stadium gears up for International World Cup Cricket action
Kanpur: After 36 years, the preparations for holding the World Cup match at Kanpur’s Green Park have intensified. UPCA has asked BCCI for two matches. A match can also be found at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow. For the first time, India has got the responsibility of hosting all the matches of the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup.
It will start in October and 48 matches will be played in different stadiums of the country. BCCI is engaged in finalizing the stadium for these matches and proposals have been sought from all the state cricket associations. UPCA has proposed to BCCI to host two matches.
So there is a strong possibility of the match being held at Green Park. With connectivity being straight, Ekana can also get a match. Earlier, on 21 October 1987, the first World Cup match was played at Green Park between West Indies and Sri Lanka, in which West Indies won by 25 runs. The beautification of the stadium has started in view of the possibility of the match, the exercise of beautification of Green Park has intensified. Pitch curator Shivakumar has been brought back from the Kamala Club.
So many teams will take part in the World Cup
A total of 10 teams will participate in the World Cup-2023 and will play 48 matches. Two teams will be selected from the Super League matches. The top eight teams will qualify for the tournament based on the ICC rankings. These eight teams include England, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, New Zealand, Pakistan, West Indies, India, Australia.

Ekana Stadium in Lucknow will get preference after pitch dispute
Recently, in the T-20 match between India and New Zealand, there was a lot of talk about the pitch at Ekana Stadium. Losing eight wickets in 20 overs, New Zealand could score only 99 runs. In response, the Indian team also had to play 19.5 overs to score 100 runs.
In such a situation, many questions were raised about Ekana’s slow wicket. Greenpark is expected to get the preference for the upcoming match.
