Hesitant to hold fort as President, Rahul Gandhi leaves Congress in a catch 22 situation

New Delhi: Congress strategists have so far been unsuccessful in persuading Rahul Gandhi to contest for the post of President, due to which the election for the post of Congress President may be delayed.

At present, Rahul Gandhi has not given any clear indication of contesting the elections. Due to no clear answer from Rahul Gandhi, the meeting of the Congress Working Committee is not being called, in which the date of the election is to be announced.

According to the Central Election Authority of the Congress, it has completed preparations for the elections.

The Central Election Authority headed by Madhusudan Mistry has said that they are ready for elections on time. Now the ball is in the court of Congress Working Committee and it has to announce the election dates. According to the pre-announced program by the party, the process of electing the Congress President was to begin from August 21 and it was to elect a new president before September 20.

The party presidents of the states were also to be elected by August 20, but till now this process has not been completed in any state.

In states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, there is no president for a long time. It is not there in UP and even after resigning in Bihar, Madan Mohan is looking after the work.

But the leadership is confused due to the lack of clarity on the stand of Rahul Gandhi and the organization is skeptical about the completion of elections on time.

Rahul Gandhi has to start ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ from September 7 from Kanyakumari and this journey is going to be long, so if elections are not held by then, there is a possibility of further delay.

Anyway, after Rahul Gandhi’s hesitation to take over the leadership, Congress strategists said that Ashok Gehlot, Mallikarjun Kharge, Mukul Wasnik, Kumari Selja and K. C. Venugopal can be considered. However, if Rahul does not agree, Sonia Gandhi is most likely to remain in the post of president till 2024.
