Hill Folk fondly recall Bharat Ratna Gobind Ballabh Pant
Lucknow: Under the auspices of the Hill General Council, the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Pandit Gobind Ballabh Pant was celebrated and the birth anniversary of Kumaon’s public poet and social worker Girish Chandra Tiwari “Girda” was also celebrated. Officials of the Hill General Council garlanded the statue of Bharat Ratna Govind Ballabh Pant located on Vidhan Sabha Road, in which President Ganesh Chandra Joshi, General Secretary Mahendra Singh Rawat and many other officials were present.
Chairman of the Hill General Council, Ganesh Chandra Joshi said that the country will always remember Pant’s struggle in the freedom struggle. For his exceptional services, he was decorated with the country’s highest award Bharat Ratna in 1957, of which we are proud. General Secretary Mahendra Singh Rawat said that the credit for first providing free and compulsory education in Kumaon goes to Pant. Chief Convenor TS Manral said that in Girish Tiwari “Girda’s” poems a strong expression of people’s suffering is visible, that is why he was called the people’s poet of Uttarakhand. On this occasion, officers of Hill General Council were present.
