As Daniel Bell said, “Technology like art is a soaring exercise of the human imagination” the third decade of this era is gradually gearing up for ‘work-from-home’.
Lockdown imposed by the global bloodbath of the Coronavirus has resulted in the shutting of the conventional places of work leading to ‘working from home’ as the ‘new normal’.
The chaotic beginning of 2020 has brought a paradigm change in the style of operation. From a specialized practice limited to a small number of industries, remote functioning has become the new standard in most trades to confirm social distancing in the COVID-19 time. The idea of virtual office is acquiring impetus as it is giving rich surpluses in terms of cost savings, suitability and efficiency improvements. Operational from the coziness of home slashes an employees’ commute expenditures and time to workplace, thus increasing efficiency as they get a better chance to sustain work-life balance. A proprietor too can get rid of his enterprise maintenance expenditure.

Remote working provides an opportunity to the employers to appoint professionals with necessary skills, understanding and person instead of restricting its hiring to native talent. By this, the bosses also get the opportunity of receiving maximum yields. The lockdown has got the marketable activities of numerous establishments to an oppressive standstill, incapacitating them to raise the remuneration of their workforce. Nevertheless, they are recompensating this by pleasing their employees with fitness or shopping coupons for their performance and this will continue even after the pandemic vanishes. This will permit the managers to not only keep the pay bill down, but also to improve the level of liquidity in the trade.

Amplified technical revolutions like Google Meet, Zoom Conferencing or Skype Meetings are video platforms open to all exceeding physical obstructions, alluring both the employers and employees to become accustomed to the flexible work plan because of better network. Reduced strain, in absence of the rush-hour traffic in streets, is eventually echoed in their productive records. Tailored working hour in place of the usual 9 to 5form facilitates more focus on their allotted task, compared to their in-office equivalent. With the COVID-19 level reaching new heights every day, more and more corporate houses are adapting the latest trend. Facebook, Twitter are mulling over the alternative of remote working for their employees on a permanent basis. Information Technology companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys and Wipro are also following the trend with a bulk of their human resource abiding work-from-home. PSUs are also taking up the new culture as the draft guiding principle issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). The National Informatics Centre (NIC) is also looking at amending its present safety procedures, in discussion with the Ministry of Home Affairs for right to use confidential file/information in e-office.
