Identity Cards specified for seamless biennial elections

Lucknow: Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Uttar Pradesh Ratnesh Singh said that by the Election Commission of India, the biennial elections of 03 divisions of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, such as Gorakhpur-Faizabad, Bareilly-Moradabad, and Kanpur and 02 divisions of teachers, such as Allahabad-Jhansi and Kanpur constituencies-will be held.

With a view to prevent impersonation in the polling for 2023 to be held on January 30, 2023, such voters who have been issued election photo identity cards to prove their identity at the time of polling, to present their election photo identity card before voting.

He said that however electors who are unable to produce their election photo identity card will have to produce one of the alternative photo identity documents to the polling staff to establish their identity. Alternative photo identity documents include Aadhaar Card, Driving License, PAN Card, Indian Passport, Service Identity Card issued by State/Central Government Public Sector Undertakings, Local Bodies or other private industrial houses to their employees, MPs/MLAs/Councillors Government issued identity card, service identity card issued by the educational institutions in which the elector of the concerned teacher/graduate constituency is employed, original certificate of degree/diploma issued by the university, original certificate related to disability issued by the competent authority- letter and Unique Disability ID (UDID) card (Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India) is acceptable.
