IIT Kanpur and BIS host workshop on Standardization and Conformity Assessment

Kanpur: As part of collaboration between Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, a one-day workshop on Standardization and Conformity Assessment was organized on March 2 at IIT Kanpur. The workshop was jointly organized by the Advanced Centre for Materials Science (ACMS), INAE Kanpur Chapter and Materials Advantage Student Chapter.

In his introductory remarks, Professor Anish Upadhyaya (Head ACMS) welcomed the participants and highlighted the need to have well-structured product and process standards for better quality, consistent products and robust practices.

Dr. Kantesh Balani (Dean Resource Planning and Alumni Relations) informed about the recently signed MoU between IIT Kanpur and BIS and stated that this venture will boost the coordination between the two organizations.

Dr. Yogesh Joshi (Chairman, INAE Kanpur Chapter) also welcomed the delegates. Shri Jayanta Roy Chowdhury, formerly Deputy Director General and currently serving as Consultant at BIS, in his address, highlighted the need for standards and their benefits. He also shared details on the recently formulated Standards National Action Plan (SNAP) and emerging areas of standardization which necessitate active cooperation and collaboration between various stakeholders and provides opportunities for engaging students, research scholars and faculty of IIT Kanpur. Over 100 delegates comprising students, staff and faculty members attended this workshop.
