IIT Kanpur organizes Vañgmay – An Evening with Marathi Litterateurs
Kanpur: The “Shivani Centre for the Nurture & Re-Integration of Hindi and Other Indian Languages” at IIT Kanpur hosted “Vañgmay – An Evening with Marathi Litterateurs”. This occasion marked the felicitation ceremony for Professor Prashant Bagad, author of a well-known Marathi edition ‘Naval’.
Prof. Kantesh Balani opened the event with a welcoming note, which was followed by a few remarks on Marathi language and culture from Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Director of IIT Kanpur.
Prof. Ashutosh Potdar from FLAME University, Pune, an eminent Marathi author and an acclaimed playwright, delivered a talk on “Contemporary Marathi Literature”. His presentation prompted the audience to immerse in the fascinating realm of Marathi literature.
It was followed by a panel discussion on “Exploring the Mind of an Author”, in which literary Marathi figures and recognised authors such as Prof. Ashutosh Potdar, Prof. Prashant Bagad, and Prof. Chinmay Dharurkar participated. This session aided to the audience’s knowledge of the contemporary significance of Marathi literature.
Students from IIT Kanpur presented a cultural performance in Marathi, as well, leaving the audience entertained. Prof. Ark Verma provided closing remarks and a vote of appreciation at the conclusion of the event.
The evening exposed the audience to Marathi literature and culture while instilling pride in one of our country’s and the IITK campus’s prominent languages.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur was established on 2nd November 1959 by an Act of Parliament. The institute has a sprawling campus spread over 1055 acres with large pool of academic and research resources spanning across 19 departments, 22 centres, and 3 Interdisciplinary programs in engineering, science, design, humanities, and management disciplines with 540 full-time faculty members and approximately 9000 students. In addition to formal undergraduate and postgraduate courses, the institute has been active in research and development in areas of value to both industry and government.
