In 2023, India gears up to stare multiple challenges in the eye
New Delhi: Team India won the Test series 2-0 by defeating Bangladesh in the second Test match held in Mirpur. With this, the journey of the Indian cricket team in the year 2022 has come to an end. Now the Indian team will be seen playing on the field only in the year 2023. If seen, the year 2022 has not been that special for Team India.
In big tournaments like the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup 2022, the Rohit brigade was not on a very good position. Now the Indian team would like to forget the past mistakes and bitter memories and perform better in the new year i.e. 2023. However, the year 2023 is not going to be easy for the Indian team. There are going to be many challenges for Team India.
World test championship
Team India had to face defeat at the hands of New Zealand in the final of the first season of the World Test Championship in the year 2021. Now the Indian team is once again in the race to reach the final of the Test Championship. If the Indian team wins three out of four Tests against Australia, then it will comfortably make it to the finals. The final match is to be played at the Oval in the month of June.
Changes in T20 cricket
India has not won the T20 World Cup since the success of its inaugural season in 2007. In the T20 World Cup of the year 2021 and 2022, the Indian team was far away from its best performance. In such a situation, a lot of improvement is needed in the Indian T20 team. BCCI is considering a new captain while a separate coach is also on the agenda for this format. It is expected that Hardik Pandya will lead this change, in which young players will be included instead of seniors.
2023 ODI World Cup
India will host the ODI World Cup at the end of October next year. ODI World Cup is returning to India after 12 years. Last time MS Dhoni’s team won the title, in such a situation once again Team India will be expected to perform well at home. India has not won any ICC title since 2013 Champions Trophy and 2023 will be a golden chance to end this drought.
Future of senior players
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami are now over 30. Kohli-Rohit, Bhuvi and Shami have played two consecutive T20 World Cups. At the same time, Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the 2022 tournament due to injury. As vice-captain, KL Rahul has struggled to score runs in the top order. At the same time, Ashwin and Dinesh Karthik have not retired from T20 yet. Everyone’s eyes will be on what decision the BCCI will take in the new year regarding the future of senior players.
Border Gavaskar Trophy
The rivalry between India and Australia has grown exponentially in the last few years. Now the Australian team is going to play four Test matches on Indian soil in February-March. This series is important for the Indian team to make it to the final of the Test Championship. Along with this, there will be pressure on India to maintain its domestic record as well. Australia hasn’t won in India since 2004. In such a situation, the team led by Pat Cummins is already eyeing the four-match Test series. India will have to give their best to win.
