In future manual sewer cleaners to be replaced with machine based sewer cleaning

Lucknow: Efforts are being made to bring down the number of deaths due to any untoward accidents. Most importantly those occurring during the cleaning of sewerage in UP. Its cleaning will now be done with machines. That’s why the name of manhole will be changed to machine hole.

Welcoming the announcement of the Finance Minister in the Union Budget, Urban Development Minister AK Sharma said that such machines are available today, which can easily do the work of sewer cleaning. Robots enter the manhole and clean it. The central government thought about this and announced in the budget. Now sewage will be cleaned using machines equipped with high technology. Such technology is being adopted in many countries. We do sewage cleaning only by giving safety equipment to the cleaning workers. He said that due to lack of budget, the cleaning work could not be done completely with machines. Due to its inclusion in the Union Budget, there will be no money crisis, in this regard the Urban Development Department will soon issue detailed instructions to the local bodies.

At present, the responsibility of cleaning the sewers in the capital is with the private company. A private company is cleaning sewers with some machines and employees. Accidents sometimes happen due to cleaning by manual scavengers. Their health too takes  beating if they get into sewers and filth. The center has understood their pain. That is why this time the announcement of renaming manhole as machine hole has been made in the budget. In the case of manual sewer cleaning, a total of 21 workers have died in the city from 1998 to 2022.

The number of people who died while cleaning the safety tanks made in private houses is also more than this.
Relatives of the dead are not being found for compensation  Out of the 21 people who have died, 19 had been approved for compensation. But the relatives of only nine people have been able to meet for compensation.
The machine hole scheme will definitely improve the standard of living of the laborers engaged in cleaning work.
Ram Kailash, GM, Jalkal told the media.
