In Uttar Pradesh, the One Stop Center is empowering women for a more secure future

Lucknow: It is often said that never underestimate the power of a woman. The mistake of thinking of women as unworthy can now cost anyone because now they have the solution of ‘Mission Shakti’. She now openly opposes any harassment because she knows when and where she has to raise her voice for justice. “Mission Shakti” has not only made women aware of legal rights but has also provided a proper platform to speak up.

This is the reason that now the fairer sex is taking the help of ‘One Stop Center’ and 181 Women’s Helpline along with Police Station-Chowki to register complaints of domestic violence and other harassment. Along with this, since the year 2019 till now, the Mahila Shakti Kendras have connected 1540283 women with various schemes.

38-year-old Rashmi (name changed) from Wazirganj, Badaun was calling a relative, but the wrong number was dialed. This number belonged to some unknown young man. Rashmi apologized for this. Despite this, from the second day onwards, the youth started sending obscene videos on Rashmi’s mobile. He also started harassing her by calling. When Rashmi tried to convince the young man, he started making threats. Then she complained to the ‘One Stop Center’. The youth was arrested after registering a report with the efforts of One Stop Center. With this Rashmi got rid of a big problem.

Meanwhile the father of a teenager from Badaun used to sell tea. After the death of his father, the mother left a woman for domestic work and went to Nepal after marrying another. The girl was beaten up for the slightest negligence in work. The woman’s husband also started raping her. To get rid of the tortured life, the girl lodged a complaint at the ‘One Stop Center’. The result of the efforts of One Stop Center was that the teenager got freedom from bonded labor and arrested the person who raped her.

Hardoi’s Sunita (name changed) was living separately with her daughter for almost eight years after being harassed by her husband. Complained about the actions of the husband to the team of Mahila Shakti Kendra. As soon as the complaint was received, the team summoned Sunita’s husband. People were surprised when Sunita’s daughter could not recognize the father when she came forward.

It turns out that she had not seen her father since she was young. Regarding the future of the daughter, the team of Mahila Shakti Kendra counseled the husband and wife. After many efforts, both of them are living together. In this way a family was saved from breaking up. Similar is the story of 29-year-old Neha (name changed), a resident of Abbas Bagh in Unnao. Neha was stricken by the harassment of her husband. Filed a complaint at ‘One Stop Center’. She told that the husband has illicit relations with many women.

Not only do they drink alcohol themselves, they also force them to have illicit relations with others by forcibly drinking them. On Neha’s complaint, the ‘One Stop Center’ summoned the husband. After several consultations, the husband gave a written assurance that he would not commit such a mistake in future. The result of the efforts of ‘One Stop Center’ was that the woman got justice and her family was saved from breaking up. Babita (name changed), a resident of Saharanpur, was beaten up by her husband and thrown out of the house along with two children. She is also leading a happy life with her family after taking help from One Stop Center.

Jaiveer, a resident of Badaun, had married daughter Anjali with Somendra on June 28 last. Anjali was harassed in her in-laws’ house for demanding dowry. On coming to know about this from Anjali, the people of the maternal house brought her to their place. On August 24, the in-laws made her send off saying that now there will be no problem in future. On the evening of August 31, Anjali had a telephonic conversation with her mother.

Everything was fine at that time. An hour later, it was learned that Anjali had died. The in-laws had fled leaving the body behind. In the post-mortem it was found that Anjali died due to poisoning. On the complaint of the relatives, the ‘One Stop Center’ filed a case report.

From the year 2019 till now, 43611 activities have been performed by Mahila Shakti Kendras, from which 3602622 beneficiaries have been covered and 1540283 women have been connected with various schemes. Similarly, 272831 activities have been done under the Beti Bachao – Beti Padhao scheme since the year 2019 and 18224862 beneficiaries have been covered. A total of 2419830 beneficiaries have been covered so far in Mission Shakti-3.0, which includes 1046587 males, 1368558 females and 4685 trans genders.
