India, Egypt looking at better defense cooperation between two nations
Cairo: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh held bilateral talks with Egyptian Defense Minister General Mohamed Zaki in Cairo . Rajnath Singh is on an official visit to Egypt. He was given a ceremonial guard of honor at the Defense Ministry in Cairo before the bilateral talks began. During the meeting, both sides discussed measures to strengthen defense ties and a consensus was reached to enhance the exchange of personnel for conducting joint exercises and training especially in the defense sector.
The two ministers also agreed to consider similar proposals to enhance cooperation between the defense industries of India and Egypt in a time bound manner. The two leaders exchanged views on regional security and acknowledged the contribution of India and Egypt in maintaining peace and stability in the world. Both sides expressed happiness at the deepening defense ties and exchanges over the past year despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Defense Minister also met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and after that the two ministers agreed to focus and consolidate on enhancing the security and defense aspects of bilateral cooperation. A significant achievement was the signing of the MoU on cooperation in the field of defense during the visit by the two Defense Ministers, which will pave the way for enhanced defense cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
Rajnath Singh invited the Egyptian Defense Minister to the India-Africa Defense Dialogue and Indian Ocean Region (IOR) Defense Ministers’ Conference to be held as part of the 12th DefExpo in Gandhinagar, Gujarat from 18 to 22 October 2022.
The Defense Minister also paid tributes at the Mausoleum of late Egyptian President Anwar al-Sadat and the Unknown Soldiers Memorial in Cairo.
