New Delhi: In what seems to be quite a feat for India to pull off, if ICMR claims are to be believed then India was the first in the world to successfully culture a new Corona strain found in Britain. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research version, samples were collected from people returned from Britain.
The Council has said that India has tasted success in isolating this strain in the laboratory. In its tweet the ICMR has said scientists have succeeded in cultivating new strains.
ICMR said, “With the help of samples collected from people who have returned from Britain, the National Institute of Virology has successfully isolated and cultured the new strains with all the changes.” Elaborating further it was said that scientists used Vero cell lines for this.
Successfully isolating this strain of the virus will ease research related to it. The new strain of the virus was found in the UK two weeks ago. Reportedly the virus spreads 70 percent faster than before. Estimates show, about three dozen people have been confirmed infected with this new strain of the virus.
